Situated in Silkstone, Barnsley, Pot House Hamlet is a lovely spot for a casual meal, garden centre shopping, and a leisurely wander. With a a garden nursery, pet supplies, and a small petting farm, there’s a few things to see and do.
The Potting Shed Bistro is a popular place to eat, serving a wide range of dishes, from comforting soups and burgers to classic fish and chips. There’s also a large cake counter and a tempting selection of ice creams and gelato, which I highly recommend.
The decor is rustic, with wooden benches, chairs, and farmhouse-style tables. It can get quite busy, so I recommend visiting during quieter times, especially if moving around with a wheelchair, mobility scooter, or dog. The staff are friendly and accommodating.
Rupert’s is both a dog grooming salon and a pet supply shop. Dogs are welcome inside and may even receive a treat from the staff. If you’re lucky, you might meet Rupert himself, a pug with a mohawk who loves to greet visitors! You’ll find everything from dog food and toys to beds, leads, and harnesses. Rupert’s occasionally hosts dog parties, like the sausage dog events we’ve attended, which include a small outdoor area with agility items. The downside is that Rupert’s is located up a steep hill.
The garden centre and plant shop are fully accessible and dog-friendly. They stock a wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants, along with a lovely selection of greeting cards. It’s a peaceful place to browse and take your time exploring.
The small petting farm is free to visit (donations for food are encouraged). You can see pygmy goats, sheep, chickens, and a wandering peacock. Some animals may roam outside their enclosures, best to watch dogs. The terrain here is bumpy and stony, so take care if using a mobility device.
Pot House Hamlet also has:
* A clothing shop
* A jewellery shop
* An indoor play area
We haven’t explored these, but they add to the variety of things to see and do.
If you’re after good food, a cuppa or a sweet treat, Pot House Hamlet is a good choice.
Tip - maybe consider quieter times as the bistro cafe can be quite busy.
