VW Festival

The VW Festival is held in the grounds of Harewood House (West Yorkshire, LS17 9LG), every summer over the second weekend of August, the most recent cost was £25 per adult - you can book in advance or on the day. There is also the option for keen campers to stop all weekend, and partake in a wide range of activities. We have only ever been for one day.

As a fan of VW cars, particularly the VW Camper, we have been to this event a few times dreaming of getting a camper and traveling off into the sunset, this really is an opportunity to appreciate these quirky vehicles. There are hundreds on display throughout the ages from vintage to the most modern, there are a number of activities running over the weekend such as show and shine competition, musical acts, dog show, military marches, a wide range of street food including pizza, burgers, hog roast sandwiches, along with plenty of ice cream stalls, plus a vast market area which has items for all, some VW themed and others just as unusual, everyone seems to have a great time and it’s a fun day out particularly in the summer sun.

The event is dog friendly but I would encourage you to take a water bottle and bowl for your dog, even consider the weather forecast prior as there is little shade and it can be quite warm out in the open - we have only taken Betty when the weather was suitable and not too warm for her. As far as festivals go, the event is scooter friendly, it can be a little bumpy on the ride, and you would need to be comfortable going over grassland and rough terrain, my scooter had no real issues. There is lots of parking in the grounds prior to the festival entrance, including disabled spaces, although closer to the entrance to the event they are set on grassland and still a walk away. I haven’t used the toilets, so I am unable to comment on those, there are festival portable style toilets available, including one accessible via a ramp.

It really is a great day out, you can easily spend all day there, just casually walking round looking at the vehicles, having something to eat and soaking up the sun and atmosphere, all being well we’ll definitely be back again!
